If you didn’t already know, one of the really cool things about the Andriod platform is it’s openness and ability to download and install 3rd party applications. In this post I’ll explain two of the methods you can use to go about installing independent apk’s to your own device.
A. Directly from your phone
The first and easiest would be to go directly to RawApps.com on your Andriod phone. You’ll automatically be rerouted to a mobile friendly version of the our site and land on the “Apk Download” section. Select the application you want to download and click on “Download Now”. From there the download and installation process will happen automatically. It’s that simple!
Before you download:
In order to install 3rd party apps to your phone you’ll have to change the settings on your device to “Allow Unknown Sources”. This process will allow you to install content on your phone that does not come directly from the Android Market.
When your .apk has finished downloading you’ll receive a notification in your status bar. Slide the notification tray down and tap on the item that has the name of the file you’ve just downloaded and the installation will begin automatically.
B. From your computer
If you are reading this post or accessing our download library from a regular desktop, get your phone ready! Each one of the apk download pages has a QR code that correspondends to that application’s unique download ID. Scan the QR code with your phone and it will bring up the download URL on your mobile device. Tap on the URL and the apk will automatically start downloading to your mobile. (You can also scan the QR code below).
Once the apk has finished downloading, slide your notification tray down and tap on the name of the file you’ve just downloaded. From there your application will install automatically.
Remember that installing 3rd party apps using this second method will also require you to change your phone’s settings to “Allow Uknown Sources”.
C. Transfer from your PC to Mobile
I’m not even going to get into this one! There are plenty of posts throughout the web that detail this process. Regardless, it’s extremely cumbersome! I highly recommend using one of the other methods above.
